"Happy Christmas" to one and all.........
As we close the last page on 2017, I would like to reflect on what has been a great year for our Lady Captain Sue Bullerwell. We had an extremely successful Ladies Open, seeing 50 pairs playing. There were some high scores, due to the fact we were on winter greens. With a pair from The Bedford gaining 1st place with 50 points, the home winning pair were Jane Cameron and Denise Fleure with 49 points, well done ladies. Much fun & banter ensued during a very enjoyable Christmas meal. Lovely flowers provided by Jean Farnbrough & great organisation as always of the 'halfway house', thanks to Jean & Roger Walpole. Thanks also to all of those who provided 'scrummy' refreshments. Thanks to Cynthia for her superb Raffle organisation & helpers on the day.
We played our 'fun' 15 holes format on Tuesday 19th December in a Scramble format. The Christmas lunch provided by Emmalee's team was first rate and thoroughly enjoyed by all. We presented our Lady Captain Sue with a 'thank you' gift from us all.
Ladies, many thanks for supporting all the fixtures, shield matches, friendlies and not forgetting the dreaded 'qualifying' competitions. I hope that more of you will sign up for these matches in 2018 to support the ladies section.
It just leaves me reflect on those lady members who are currently experience ill-health. I know you will all want to join me in sending them and their families, our best wishes at this difficult time.
Sue, you have done a stirling job on behalf of us all this year, no easy feat with lots of hurdles crossed along the way. Enjoy your period of rest over Christmas & New Year, you can then look forward to winding down and handing over to your trusted Vice Captain Morag in February 2018.

Ladies Presentation Dinner
Pavenham Park ladies enjoyed the annual Presentation Dinner on Friday 17th November. The fayre presented by Emma Lee and her team was excellent, much wine was imbibed by some! and lots of banter ensued... Our Lady Captain Sue was in good form and made presentations to winners for Competitions held in the latter part of the year... see pics page for photos. We all enjoyed a varied quiz, courtesy of Ann Griffiths with the Lady Captain's table caming last!! A beautiful flower arrangement for the presentation table was supplied by Jean Farnbrough and it was lovely to see her looking so well and in attendance. It was also great to see Chris Warren who looked as fantastic as ever. Alas, we now say goodbye to a former Lady Captain, Kate Dawson who is moving to a Club closer to home. The ladies section extend a huge thanks to Kate for all her support over the years.
The After Dinner Cup was played on Saturday morning and was a close run competition. The eventual winners were Heather Stephenson and Morag Stewart with 38 points, runners-up on count-back were Imogen Morten-King & Kath Caiger. Another great year is coming to a close but we have lots to look forward too before we see the New Year in. I hope you are all signed up for the Chicken Chase and Turkey Trot. Enjoy the final weeks of 2017 ladies......

Pavenham Park Trip away to Cape Cornwall Golf Club - 25th September 2017
A very successful trip to Cape Cornwall Golf Club got underway first thing on Monday 25th September, we had two rounds of golf and were extremely lucky with the weather, sunshine both days and light wind. Our hostess Ruthie Bowers organised a competitive round of golf on the second day when we were joined by Cape Cornwall players on some dodgy old handicaps!! We won one match and lost the other two but the scores were very close, obviously Cape had home advantage so we thought we did extremely well. Many thanks to all those who made the trip, Anne Beckett, Linda Darbon, Heather & Dave Stephenson, Peter & Dee Rabson. We were joined by Jill & Les Geary for a meal Monday evening and Jill represented Pavenham in the round of golf on Tuesday. Many thanks to Ruthie for her great organisation of accommodation/golf and by gracing us with her presence throughout our trip but moreover for providing Cornish Pasties (straight from the oven) during both rounds of golf.......

Handicap Shield - Final Result
Final Match v John'O'Gaunt - Tuesday 19th September
What an amazing result for the Pavenham Park ladies Shield team. A victorious result against John'O'Gaunt means we retain the Handicap Shield for another year, narrowly beating Aspley Guise by one point. It was a must win game and a rather nervous team took to the fairways on a lovely sunny day. Many thanks as always to the team that signed up to play, Sue Bullerwell, Anne Beckett, Heather Stephenson, Morag Stewart, Linda Darbon, June Russell and Anne Puzey, with a final result of 5½/1½. Our lady Captain Sue would like to thank all those ladies who have represented Pavenham Park in the Handicap Shield this year. A great result winning 10 out of the 12 matches played, only losing away to both Leighton Buzzard and Aspley Guise. We can now relax and look forward to supporting Morag in 2018.
CONGRATULATIONS to our Lady Captain Sue for playing in every match and being so supportive of us all....

Ping 4BBB Grand Final 2017 -
What a great performance from our two youngsters, Imogen Morten-King and Luca Thomson who played in the Ping 4BBB Grand Final on Tuesday 5th September at Gainsborough Golf Club. Both girls supported by their Dads had a practice round on Monday. Our deadly duo came 2nd on countback out of 50 pairs. What a fantastic achievement, well done to you both. They scored 42 points, narrowly missing out to a pair from Tankersley Park Golf Club. See the extract below taken from the England Golf website....
Runners-up Luca, 15, and Imogen, 16, (Pavenham Park) started very strongly and their betterball score was one-over par after nine holes and they had amassed 22 points by the turn. But although they scored well on the inward half it wasn’t quite enough to win and they confessed to a mixture of disappointment and pleasure.
“It’s such a good event,” said Luca, who has been playing golf for 18 months and has a 13 handicap. “England Golf events are so different, they really feel like a championship.” She reached the national final of the Bridgestone Chase Your Dream Trophy which was played during the recent England Golf Week.
Imogen, an 11-handicapper and club champion, is a Girls Golf Rocks ambassador in Bedfordshire, encouraging other girls to play golf as part of the project run by England Golf and the Golf Foundation. Tomorrow, she and two other ambassadors will make up a county team in the pro-am of the Bridgestone Challenge pro-am at Luton Hoo.
We are so proud of you both and feel extremely lucky to have you as part of our ladies Section...

The first tee-times were 8.58 off the 1st & 10th, with some truly amazing scores coming in. Many congratulations to Jane Cameron for coming 1st with a whopping 49 points. Coming in 2nd place with another fantastic score was Beryl Day with 44 points. Kath Caiger was 3rd with another great score of 40 points. Jane Cameron also won the Champagne challenge - nearest the pin on the 6th. The scissors have been out and they are all now playing off substantially lower handicaps!! The weather stayed fine and all ladies enjoyed a fantastic half-way house, kindly supplied by numerous ladies from PP. Lunch was enjoyed by all and after a short rest the afternoon 'fun' competiton commenced. The format was a BAM, Best/All/Multiply and the winning team with 61 points were Merlyn Webb, Clare Williams and their blind partner June Russell. 2nd place team were June, Anne Puzey and Suzie Bishop with 51. 3rd place on countback with 51 points were Jane Cameron, Anne Beckett and their blind partner Jackie Hammer. Afternoon tea was enjoyed by all, and much laughter ensued with presentations being made to all the winners for the day's events. See photos on Pics page........
Out Lady Captain Sue thanked all who helped during the day, especially Lee for organising all the paperwork behind the scenes to enable the day to run so smoothly. BUT we, the ladies of Pavenham Park must thank Sue for putting on a truly spectacular day, so much effort which we all truly appreciate, many thanks also for the complementary drink at lunchtime. Sue's parting comment as she left the Clubhouse last night was "I'm now going home for a very large glass of wine". Well earned in my opinion.............

Daily Mail Foursomes K/O
Heather and Anne Beckett (standing in for Dee), played in the 2nd round of the above competition away at Northamptonshire Golf Club on Sunday 9th April. After being 5 down going through to the 10th hole, they fought their way back to only being one down standing on the 18th tee. The hole was halved but unfortunately their opponents had a shot (one of 9!!) and they won the match 1 up. A great experience for both on a warm Spring day, playing on a really stunning course.....
